How to Mend a Broken Heart: Day 20

COOK. What’s your favorite meal? How do you feel when you smell it? Cook it? Eat it?

There is a process to cooking, a familiarity. You start functioning out of place where you know what to do and you just do it. Kind of like driving and not remembering how you get from place A to place B but find yourself right there. It’s comforting to be in the kitchen and making something for you…that you love. Will you share this meal with anyone? If so, who will you share it with? What comes up for you when you thinking about who you want to share the meal with? Or is it just for you? Will you be eating alone? If so, it’s totally okay! What do you like about eating alone? The quiet? The time to yourself?

I don’t always love being in the kitchen, but when I do…I REALLY love it. The first meal I made for my kids after my husband died was spaghetti. It is the one meal I’ve always made and it has always comforted me. It was a meal that my Dad always made on our weekends with him. It was the one meal as I kid that I always asked for. I remember learning to make his spaghetti when I was in high school and I’ve been making it ever since. SO….I remember when my kids walked in from school that October afternoon, after many weeks of eating other people’s food or eating out….they smelled the house and couldn’t wait to sit down for our “family” dinner. Our family had changed. It was now just the 3 of us, we were missing someone. Somehow, that meal stands out to me…we were redefining ourselves as a family…we were moving forward…we were being comforted.

That one meal started us in the right direction. That one meal was a reminder of who I was. That one meal reminded me that I could do this. That one meal reminded me that I was strong. That one meal….that one meal…a family favorite…was a game changer.

Make THAT meal. The one that reminds you and comforts you. And, if that meal is nachos…I support that! (I LOVE nachos!) Or, if it’s ordering pizza…I support that too! You’ve got this!

I’m a phone call away….the first call is ALWAYS complimentary and helping YOU build your solid foundation, find your silver linings and live a life full of gratitude is what my life purpose is all about!
